Every actor has a story about how they were first bitten by the acting bug. Whether by chance or design, there was that one experience which began their journey. For Jody Matzer it would be a kindergarten production of Hansel and Gretel. He would play Hansel. Maybe it was because he had blonde hair? Maybe it was because he owned a pair of authentic German lederhosen? Whatever the reason for his casting, he would begin his adventures as an actor like so many. There were school plays and musicals, summer stock productions and his first local commercial when he was a high school senior. This was the first year he joined the very first improv comedy group in Richmond, Virginia, The Underground Gang, where the eighteen year old would perform along side professional actors and stand-up comedians. One thing was clear: Matzer loved performing and had a natural talent to entertain.

In a career spanning 15 years, Actor Jody Matzer has worked on a variety of film, television and stage productions. When not working in front of the camera, Matzer has been called on to participate in series table reads, off-camera reading and stand-in work. His passion for this industry knows no bounds and his vast and varied experiences have informed the actor-artist he is today.

With a BFA in Illustration from Virginia Commonwealth University, Matzer occupies his down time from film and television projects creating award-winning editorial illustration. A children’s book, which he will write and illustrate, is planned as a future project.

Acting is his first love but Jody Matzer is a true renaissance man and his interests are many. He will continue to write and create original art as his journey as an actor continues.

Jody Matzer and his wife currently call Richmond, Virginia home as he continues to pursue exciting new projects in front of and behind the camera.
